Rent Controls so you can afford your home and save for your future
Unlimited rent increases should be illegal. But every year, more of your wages go straight into your landlord’s pockets.
That’s because, under Labor, property investors can put up your rent by any amount. And in the last 5 years rents have gone up 2.5 times faster than wages.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
The Greens ended rental bidding and no grounds evictions – we can make rent controls a reality too.
We will cap rent increases so you can afford your home, and even save for the future.
Make Big Polluters Pay for the damage caused by fires and floods
Fires burn, ‘tsunami-like’ flash floods have seen people trapped and cars swept out to sea along Victoria’s Great Ocean Road.
This is the climate crisis. And if governments continue to prioritise fossil fuel profits over people’s safety, it will get worse.
Labor in Victoria continues to allow coal and gas corporations like Woodside, BHP and Exxon to expand – burning more fossil fuels for obscene profits, fuelling more frequent and severe climate disasters, and leaving Victorians to pay the price. It doesn’t have to be this way.Â
We can stop new fossil fuel projects and make big climate polluters pay for the damage they cause.
Free and Frequent Public Transport
Public transport should be free and frequent, especially in a cost of living crisis where fuel prices are through the roof.
Free public transport is saving commuters $220 a month. Thousands of Victorians are enjoying getting around our state without worrying about how they’re going to pay for it.
Yet Labor has put fares back up while people are still struggling.
The Greens will make public transport permanently free. Melbourne could be the first major city in the world to offer buses, trams, and trains at zero cost. Just walk on and walk off.
We’ll pay for it by taxing big corporations, who have been getting a free ride from Labor for decades.
We’ll also improve the network to make services more frequent, so you can get where you’re going without waiting around.
